Dear Innisdale Secondary School Students:
We hope that you and your families have had a restful summer break and have stayed healthy. Over the last several months, there has been ongoing preparation for the beginning of the school year and on September 7th we will begin our journey together. We want to ensure you that our staff continues to prepare under the guidance of Simcoe District School Board, in partnership with Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to make the start a successful experience for all.
Below you will find some important information for your return. Please ensure you take the time to review this information.
School Entry and Exit
To support a controlled and safe entry and exit plan to the school, we have assigned students to a specific door based on classroom location. Students will be entering/exiting the building in the morning and afternoon using the closest door associated with their classroom (each week will likely differ). Please use the student portal to determine the location of your classes after this Friday. Assistance upon arrival will be provided to students for locating their assigned rooms in the event they have any technical issues with their student portal Student Portal Login .
Attached is a map outlining school doors along with a list of doors associated with each classroom. Students assigned to portables will arrive and go directly to the portable without entering the school. Please review the documents prior to the first day of school. Students are asked to follow the floor arrows that determine the flow and direction of traffic while navigating throughout the school. Innisdale Map click here, Entrance map Designated Entrances click here.
Students are to report directly to their classroom upon arrival to school as they are not permitted to gather in school hallways. Please note that school doors will be unlocked at 7:45 a.m. daily to support student arrival and students will not be able to enter the school prior to that time.
As you prepare for the first day of school, here are some important things you'll need to know.
Secondary School Start Date
The first day of school for all students (in-person and remote learning) is Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
Secondary School Schedule
The semester one timetable will be based on a modified semester. This means students will take two classes per week, alternating between week A and week B for the full semester. This schedule limits the number of students in a cohort, and it reduces the number of students that come into contact with one another each week.
|Week A||Week B||Time|
|Period 1||Period 3|
8:00 – 10:40 a.m.
150 minutes (5 minute staggered break)
10:40 – 11:40 a.m.
|Period 2||Period 4|
11:40 a.m. – 2:15 p.m.
150 minutes (5 minute staggered break)
You may access your timetable by logging into the student portal. The link to the student portal can be found under the student tab on our school website here: Student Portal Login please check after Friday September 3, 2021. Guidance staff are available to address timetable questions.
If you require any timetable changes at this time, please click on the following link and complete the following google form: Timetable Change Request Form
For all other Guidance Inquiries please contact the counsellor according to the student's last name: (Assigned based on last name of student)
When arriving to school it is important to note that Innisdale will have designated entry and exit doors and staggered entry and exit times. Students and staff are asked to follow directional arrows and signage in the schools to support the physical distancing measures. Throughout the school, there will be additional signage to remind students and staff of proper hand hygiene and instructions for washing and sanitizing. Hand sanitizer will be provided in each classroom for student and teacher use. At this time only students and staff are permitted in the building. Please call 705-726-2552 ext. 0 to reach the front desk in the office.
When students return on their first day, they will notice that some common areas such as the great hall will have limited access. There will be no assemblies or other large gatherings. School sports will be limited to those that meet specific guidelines. Teachers will be encouraged where appropriate to consider outdoor learning areas.
Health and physical education
Physical education will occur in the gymnasiums, fitness room and outside. Students will be required to sanitize their hands during the class and follow the health guidelines related to the activities.
Student Activity Fee
Students are able to pay the student activity fee on School Cash Online. These funds are used to support Student Council events and activities as well as other opportunities offered throughout the school year. Students will receive a student activity card that can be shown for a discount on City Transit. This card is used for student events throughout the year.
Athletics and Clubs
Students should listen to the announcements regarding the various clubs and athletic opportunities they may choose to participate.
Health and safety
You will be required to wear a face mask while inside the school building. Please wear your own mask that securely covers your nose and mouth. We will provide cloth masks to students who do not have them.
Each morning, you are required to complete a self-screen prior to attending school. The self-screening tool can be found here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/.
There is a PDF version also attached in this email. Covid Screening
If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you must stay home. You will be required to report your student's absence by contacting email@example.com or by calling 705-726-2552 ext 1. All other absences and late arrivals can be reported via the same method mentioned above.
We believe that looking after our physical and mental health is essential to our well-being. We are committed to creating an inclusive school environment where students feel safe, welcome, and included.
For helpful information and resources to support student mental health and well-being, visit the SCDSB website or School Mental Health Ontario.
Lockers will be available for student use this school year.
Student Personal Belongings:
It is essential that students limit the personal belongings that they bring to school. Non-essential items should remain at home.
At this time, all school assemblies, presentations and field trips activities have been cancelled until further notice.
If you indicated in June that you are participating in the remote learning program, you will be contacted by your teacher with instructions for logging on to the remote learning platform. If you did not indicate you would be a remote learner, then you are registered to attend in-person. Changes to learning modes can only be accommodated for semester 2. Classes begin on September 7, 2021.
The student's Information Verification form is being sent home with students on the first day of school. Parents/guardians must complete this form, sign and send back to the school by Friday, September 10. All other forms as mandated by SCDSB are to be completed electronically on School Cash Online. Parents/guardians are to complete these forms by Friday, September 17. The Student Handbook is available on the school's website iss.scdsb.on.ca, students and parents/guardians will need to review this prior to completing the Acknowledgement & Permission form.
Parent Portal allows parents access to attendance information and final report card marks for their student. If your parent/guardian does not have an account already set up, please contact the school to gain information on how to set up your account.
If you drop off your student, please drop them off at the Kiss and Ride area marked out in the lane between the Allendale Recreation Centre and the school football field. Do not drive up to the front of the school, only authorized vehicles are permitted in this area.
Please ensure your student arrives to school on-time to ensure a good start to their day of learning. School doors will open at 7:45 am. Students will not be able enter the building before this time.
Communication from the school and your student's teachers will be coming regularly, so please ensure that your preferred email address is provided to our school office – you can update your email address by emailing – firstname.lastname@example.org
As we receive information, we will do our best to ensure you are kept up to date. We would like to thank you in advance as we work together as team in the Innisdale community to support each other. If you have questions, please send them along and we will do our best to support you and your student in finding the answer.
